In a moving and reflective final session, Mrs. Victoria N. Madueke, the 400-level coordinator for the Department of Sociology at the University of Jos, addressed her graduating students, leaving them with words of encouragement and shared memories.
Standing before the class, Mrs. Madueke expressed feelings of pride, gratitude, and deep emotion. She reminisced about the beginning of their academic journey, recalling how the students arrived with their secondary school credentials in hand their eyes wide open and uncertain about the path that lay ahead.
She acknowledged the various challenges the students have navigated since then, noting the collective struggle to adapt to the university environment, the uncertainty of academic strikes, and the personal battles some students faced with addictions, family struggles, and intense academic pressure. Despite these hardships, she commended the students for their perseverance, especially in overcoming the academic pressures that threatened to break them.
Concluding her address, Mrs. Madueke took a moment to celebrate the resilience of her students, noting that they have now grown into fully matured young adults who have conquered challenges that words cannot fully capture.
